World Masters Athletics

Havana, August 18 (JIT) - Jairo Guibert had a happy Sunday thanks to a record of 7.05 meters that assured him second place in the long jump at the World Masters Athletics Championships 2024, which these days focuses the attention from the Swedish city of Gothenburg.

In the 40-and-over category, Guibert had his best jump on the fourth attempt to take the lead at that point. However, Saudi Arabia's Ahmed Binmarzouq had saved his strength and stretched to 7.07 meters in the fifth round, allowing him to take the title.

Away from official competitions since 2015, Guibert now achieved a sequence with three other valid attempts of 6.57-6.67-6.97 meters.

The Cuban, finalist in a world youth competition and owner of a personal best of 7.16 meters, enjoys his first prize in events of this type and dreams of increasing the prize money, as he will compete this Monday in the triple jump for his category.

After three days of competition, the medal tally is headed by the United States, thanks to the harvest of 27 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals.
