National Youth Baseball5 Championship

Havana, August 18 (JIT) - The Havana team achieved two victories and leads the 2024 National Youth Baseball5 Championship, U-18 category, held at the Eide Julio Diaz, in Artemisa.

First of all, the disciples of coach Reinier Machú achieved a comfortable 2-0 (10-3, 4-0) victory over Sancti Spíritus. In their second game, they sweated copiously to overcome Santiago de Cuba 2-1.

In that match, the Havana players fell in the first set (5x6), but with the crucial contribution of world junior champions Amanda Diaz and Adis Yudith Espinel, they came back and won the remaining two sets: 9x5 to tie and 8x6 in the decisive one.

In other results, reported to JIT from the headquarters by Eros Bernal, head coach of baseball5 on the island, Santiago de Cuba beat Ciego de Avila 2-0 (6x0, 9x1), Mayabeque beat Sancti Spíritus 2-1 (8x3, 7x8, 5x0) and Guantánamo beat Ciego de Avila 2-1 (6x3, 1x4, 2x1).

This competition serves the specialists' collective to see in action talented players between 12 and 16 years of age, in order to form the national pre-selection for the international events scheduled for 2025.
