Havana, Aug 19 (RHC) - Jairo Guibert became Cuba's first champion at the 2024 World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

With a record of 15.02, Guibert won the triple jump for over 40 years old.

The winning jump was in the second round of a sequence that began with 14.32 meters, only five centimeters behind Saudi Arabia's Majed Ghazi Mohamed, leader at the time.

Cuba attends the competition with only nine competitors, among them high jumper Victor Moya, now bronze medalist in the 40 years old event.

In the same specialty, but for athletes over 50 years old, Ioamnet Quintero finished eighth and other members of the group such as Gabriel Alfonso (long jump and triple jump), Pablo Medina (high jump), Adonis Matis (triple jump) and Michel Martínez (triple jump) are yet to compete.
