Cuba in group A for 2026 World Baseball Classic

World Baseball Classic

Havana, Aug 21 (ACN) Cuba was placed in Group A for the upcoming VI World Baseball Classic, according to the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC).

Based in Puerto Rico, the largest Caribbean island will face in that section, in addition to the Puerto Rican hosts, the teams of Canada and Panama.

In the B bracket, to be played in Texas, the United States, Mexico, Italy and Great Britain will battle it out, while Japan will host the matches in the C bracket, where the locals will face South Korea, Australia and the Czech Republic.

Lastly, the D section, based in Miami, will feature Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and Israel.

The last four qualifiers have yet to be decided and will be drawn in one of the groups at home.

This will be the sixth edition of a tournament that Japan has won three times and the United States and Dominican Republic have won once.

Cuba, silver medalist in the first edition in 2006, reached fourth place in the last tournament, organized last year.
