Cuban team for World Youth Boxing Championship announced

World Youth Boxing Championship

Havana, Sept 26 (ACN) Cuba will compete from October 22 to November 3 in the World Youth Boxing Championship in Duvba, Montenegro, with presence in eight weight divisions.

The Cuban Federation informed that the members of the team will be Angel Manuel Sober (48 kg), Kevin Alejandro Sanchez (54 kg), Yojander Fuentes (57 kg), Yoelvis Leyan Tejera (63.5 kg), David Manuel Espinosa (67 kg), Yurisniel Abreu (75 kg), Jorge Luis Mayeta (80 kg), and Javier Alexander Rawlins (86 kg).

In charge of the men's team will be the head coach of the category, Santiago Suarez, who will be accompanied by coaches Walfrido Ilizástigui and Armando David Camara.

The organizers expect the attendance of more than 300 boxers from 52 countries for the event, which will bring together exponents of both sexes.

In the 2022 edition, held in Nucia, Spain, Cuba won two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals; and boasts a historical medal tally of 79 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze medals in its 21 versions of the men's tournaments, with 11 first places by nations.

Ronny Álvarez (86 kg) and Adrián Fresneda (92 kg) won the titles in the Spanish event, Ewart Marín (52) won the silver medal, and Kryhztian Barrera (75), Pedro Alexis Veitía (71), and Luis Reynoso (80) won the bronze medal after falling in the semifinals.
