Ohtani
Havana, Sept 28 (RHC) - Japanese Shohei Ohtani, the star of the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball, stole another base on Friday and reached 57 in the current season, one more than the one reached more than three decades ago by Ichiro Suzuki.
In the 2001 campaign with the Seattle Mariners, Ichiro stole 56 bases in his rookie season to become the Japanese with the most stolen bases in the Major Leagues, a mark Ohtani just broke.
Now the Japanese star has stolen 34 consecutive bases without being caught, the second-longest streak in Dodgers history, second only to Davey Lopes' 38 in a row in 1975.
He has 57 steals in 61 attempts on the season.
Ohtani had another outstanding day with the bat on Thursday, hitting 5-4, with a home run, 4 RBIs, two runs scored and a steal, in the Dodgers' 11-4 win over the Colorado Rockies.
In his last 12 games, he has driven in a franchise-record 26 runs.
In pursuit of the Triple Crown of batting, Ohtani raised his offensive average to 309 and closed in on Venezuela's Luis Arráez (312) and the Dominican Republic's Marcell Ozuna (310).
Ohtani leads the American League in home runs (54) and runs batted in (130).
Ohtani is also the first Major League Baseball player since 2001 to reach 400 bases run.
