Havana, Oct 1 (JIT) - Cubans Roberlandy Simón, Roamy Alonso, and Jesús Herrera came out on top with their teams in the opening of the 2024-2025 season of the Italian Volleyball Super League.

With a 10-unit contribution from star player Simon, Piacenza defeated Modena 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23).

Simon was the third best scorer for Piacenza, with six attacking units in seven attempts, for an 86 percent efficiency, in addition to adding two aces and an equal number of blocks.

The young Cuban Jose Miguel Gutierrez, who made his debut with Modena, was not at a great level and scored only six points, with only four effective attacks in 14 actions.

Roamy Alonso and Taranto gave joy to the home team by beating Milano 3-0, in a match where the Cuban made his debut as a starter and scored seven points, four thanks to opportune blocks.

Perugia, last season's champion, came out on top as visitors against Verona 3-0, in a match where the Cuban left-handed player Jesús Herrera, who came on as a substitute in the first two sets, closed as a regular and accumulated six points, four of them in attack in nine attempts.
