Havana, Oct 2 (ACN) The Cuban men's handball team will have a training base in France in November, with a view to the World Championship of that sport, to be held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway, from January 14 to February 2 next year 2025.
Franklin Guevara, national commissioner of that discipline, told the Cuban News Agency that in that preparation camp they expect to meet other teams, which is undoubtedly always very beneficial.
He added that in January, shortly before the world championship, they also intend to prepare outside the country, although it has not yet been confirmed where that training and practice period will take place, he explained.
Regarding the players of the Cuban team, he said that those who are contracted in Europe have started their league seasons at different levels with good rhythm, and then, when they join the national team they will evaluate their conditions.
In the case of those who are here on the island, they are a little behind because they have just started their preparation, without an adequate level due to the conditions of the sports facilities where they train, said Guevara.
The draw held last May in Zagreb, Croatia, determined that the Cuban team will be in Group G along with Slovenia, Iceland and, Cape Verde.
According to the classification system, the first three teams in each section will advance to the second phase, and the remaining teams will play each other for the 25th to 32nd places.
The Caribbean nation's national team returns to the Men's World Handball Championships after six consecutive absences.
To guarantee their ticket to this universal event, the handball players of the largest of the Antilles won the title of the North American and Caribbean Tournament, held in Mexico last May.
