Cyclists invited to Tour of Panama

Havana, Oct 3 (JIT) - A Cuban team, made up of eight cyclists, will participate in the Tour of Panama 2024, from Oct. 8 to 13, at the invitation of the country's cycling federation.

The squad is made up of Yariel de León, Pedro Portuondo, Adonis Cardoso, Vicente Sanabria, Joselín Piedra, and Jorge Rojas, who will compete in the elite category; Yunier Álvarez, in the master A category; and Randol Izquierdo in the under-23 category.

Six of them attended the giro in the previous season and debut of Izquierdo, from Ciego de Ávila, of the national mountain bike team, and Rojas, from Sancti Spíritus, who, after his retirement from the Cuban cycling pre-selection, has stood out for his stable presence and performance in road and MTB races for masters.

Harold Gárciga will be the technical director and will have as assistants Carlos Enrique Arias and Ángel de León. 

In the presentation of this tour, the organizers announced that in addition to those from the island and the host country, cyclists from Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, the United States, Spain, Honduras, and Venezuela will participate.

The categories are elite, master A and B, youth and U-23. They will face six stages: team time trial (17.5 km), closed circuit (110), mountain (76), online (124), individual time trial (29.90) and closed circuit (95).

The Cuban team will travel in two groups next Friday and Saturday.
