San Salvador, Oct 14 (PL) Cuba's Jorge Moises Campos defeated Guatemala's Ian Morales 4-1 today in a duel at the Pan American Table Tennis Championship held in this city.

Campos defeated Morales in a match corresponding to the round of 64 of the Pan American championship and thus placed among the best 32 in the individual competition of the tournament.

In this instance, the Caribbean player will rival, in a duel scheduled on this same date, with the Brazilian star Hugo Calderano, fourth place in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024 and who is looking for his fourth continental crown in a row.

The other Cubans participating in the men's singles, Liván Martínez and Adrián Pérez, lost in their opening matches.

Martinez lost 0-4 to Argentina's Francisco Sachi and Perez fell 2-4 in his duel against local player Diego Orantes.

Among the women from Cuba, Rosalba Aguilar, 4-0 winner this Sunday over the host Samirah Muñoz and the top Antillean player, Daniela Fonseca, who will make her debut against the Brazilian Victoria Strassburger in the round of 32.

The continental table tennis tournament, with the participation of 16 teams of each gender, will close its curtains on the 20th and in addition to the individual categories, women's, men's, and mixed doubles will compete in order to grant quotas for the world competition to be hosted by Qatar in 2025.
