Havana, Oct. 16 (JIT) - The advances of their pairs in the doubles events for each sex assured Cuba at least two bronze medals in the Pan American Table Tennis Championship of San Salvador 2024.

Daniela Fonseca and Estela Crespo swept Puerto Rico's Brianna Burgos and Alondra Rodriguez 3-0 (11-8, 12-10, 11-6) in just 25 minutes. Thus, they were included among the four best duos of the tournament, with the latent option of changing the color of this award.

In the men's segment, Andy Pereira and Jorge Moises Campos defeated the Mexicans Marcos Madrid and Rogelio Castro 3-0. The duel lasted only 23 minutes and was resolved with scores of 11-8, 11-6, and 11-4, without many complications on the table.

The continental champions of Santiago 2023 will try to improve their podium position when they meet Canadians Edaward Ly and Simeon Martin in the semifinals at the Polideportivo de Ciudad Merliot.

Brazilians Vitor Ishiy and Guilherme Teodoro will face Argentina's Santiago Lorenzo and Horacio Cifuentes in search of the other ticket to the final.

In addition to the tickets obtained, Cuba has a secure presence in the mixed doubles competition thanks to Daniela and Jorge Moises, who are now among the eight best couples in America before losing 2-3 in the quarterfinals to the Americans Amy Wang and Jishan Liang.

The team event is scheduled to begin on Friday, with Cuba as Costa Rica's rival in the men's category and El Salvador in the women's category.
