Cuba U12 Team

Panama City, Oct 24 (PL) The Cuban under-12 baseball team obtained its ticket to the 2025 World Cup after defeating Venezuela 4-3 today in the Pan American Championship held in Panama City.

After defeating the teams of Argentina, Brazil. and Puerto Rico, the team from the largest Caribbean Island overcame the South Americans to finish the qualifying stage as second in Group B, behind the undefeated Dominican Republic (5-0), and fulfill the goal they set for themselves in this tournament.

A pair of runs in the second episode, towed by a single by Daibel Barrero, led to the tie and an advantage that the Cubans defended for the rest of the game, held at the Rod Carew National Stadium.

In the third act they completed the production by scoring two more runs to the account of the starter and defeated Elky Parada, one of them driven by a double of the masked Jose Martinez.

The Venezuelans raised the tension in the fifth section with a home run by catcher Carlos Gutiérrez with a teammate on base, but they were never able to overcome the deficit.

The win went to Alexandro Martínez, after walking a four-episode route where he allowed three clean runs, conceded one base on balls, and struck out two opponents. Humberto Alfonso pitched the last two innings and although he accepted a couple of hits, he managed to hang the rings to assure his team the important victory.

Cuba will face tomorrow in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m., local time, against the first place of group A, which will be the winner between the United States and the host Panamanians, both teams with four wins without defeats in this competition and with safe seats in the World Cup.
