Yojander Fuentes

Havana, Nov 3 (ACN) Cuban Yojander Fuentes lost today in the final of the 57 kilograms (kg) against Uzbekistan's Sayankar Olinov, a result with which Cuba closed without titles in the World Youth Boxing Championships in Budva 2024, Montenegro, where it only won two silver medals.

After a similar performance this Saturday by David Manuel Espinosa (67 kg), Fuentes fell this Sunday by a 2-3 decision against Olinov, so both finished with silver medals.

Espinosa was beaten 1-4 by Kazakhstan's Torekhan Sabyrkhan, the only two Caribbean fighters to reach the podium out of the eight fighters from the largest of the Antilles present in the Montenegrin event.

Angel Sober (48 kg), Yurisniel Abreu (75 kg) and Javier Alexander Rawlins (86 kg), who lost in the quarterfinals, and before that stage, Kevin Sanchez (54 kg), Jorge Luis Mayeta (80 kg), and Yoelvis Leyan Tejera (63.5 kg) finished without medals.

It was impossible to surpass the overall performance obtained in La Nucia 2022, Spain, the purpose with which the eight Caribbean boxers arrived in Budva, according to head coach Santiago Suarez, supported by trainers Walfrido Ilizástigui and Armando David Camara.

In the Spanish world tournament, Cuba won two gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals, a total of 79 gold medals, 23 silver medals, plus Espinosa's medal and 31 bronze medals, and leads the history.
