Coloso del Pacífico Stadium
Havana, Nov 6 (ACN) A Cuban national team will face today the Mexican national team that will participate in the Premier 12 baseball tournament, in a friendly match that will inaugurate the stadium called "Coloso del Pacífico" (Colossus of the Pacific).
The new stadium, with a capacity for nine thousand spectators, is located in the Santa Teresita neighborhood in the city of Tepic and will be one of the venues for Group A, which will begin next Saturday with the participation of the 12 top-ranked countries in the world.
A few weeks ago, the stadium was certified by a U.S. Major League Baseball committee after verifying that it met all the requirements for international professional competitions to be held there.
Cuba received the invitation from the sports authorities for this friendly match and, given the impossibility of sending its national team, which is in the adaptation phase of a tour of Taiwan where it will play the qualifying phase of the Premier League, it sent a squad made up of players who stood out in its domestic championship.
The team will be led by Professor Angel Ortega, manager of the Alazanes de Granma, which won the bronze medal last season, and is made up of 18 players.
The group is made up of catchers Yosvani Alarcón and Lázaro Ponce, infielders William Saavedra, Yunier Mendoza, Alexis Varona, Osvaldo Abreu, Yunier Rondón, and Jeison Martínez and outfielders Over Luis Cremet, Frederich Cepeda, Dennis Laza, Yaser Julio González, and Ariel Hechavarría.
Dani Betancourt, Randy Cueto, Armando Dueñas, Branlis Rodríguez, and Alberto Pablo Civil were selected as pitchers for the game and the coaching staff also includes Guillermo Carmona, Jorge Hierrezuelo, Jesús Bosmenier, Abeicy Pantoja, and Carlos Martín.
