Liverpool regains top spot in UEFA Champions League

United Kingdom, Nov 27 (PL) Liverpool beat Real Madrid 2-0 at their Anfield headquarters, regaining the top spot in the Champions League after the fifth round of matches.

The Reds, holders of the Carabao Cup, maintained their unbeaten run in five games to reach 15 points and put their rivals, reigning champions of the tournament, the Spanish League, and the European and Spanish Super Cups, who have just six points, on the brink of direct elimination.

A pass from Conor Bradley and an effective shot from Alexis Mac Allister gave the hosts a definitive lead in the 52nd minute, and after penalties missed by the home side's Mohamed Salah and Madrid's Kylan Mbappé, Cody Gakpo scored a goal to seal the match and send the stands wild.

In other results, Lille beat Bologna 2-1, Borussia Dortmund 3-0 at Dinamo Zagreb, Benfica 3-2 at Monaco, and PSV 3-2 at Shakhtar Donetsk. Celtics and Brugge drew 2-2 and Aston Villa and Juventus failed to score.

Earlier in the day, Sturm Graz defeated Girona 1-0 and Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) beat Stuttgart 5-1.

After these results, Liverpool (15) dominates the standings followed by Inter Milan (13), Barcelona and Dortmund (12), and Atalanta (11).

Completing the top eight are Leverkusen, Monaco, and Arsenal, all with 10 points.
