Havana, Nov 28 (RHC) The Cuban men's national team is in Group D of the Volleyball World Championship, a tournament that will bring together 32 teams divided into eight sections from September 12 to 28, 2025 in the Philippines.
According to the website of the International Federation (FIVB), the Cubans will be accompanied by the teams of the United States, Portugal, and Colombia, in search of one of the first two places, a result that will guarantee their advancement to the round of 16.
The Philippines, Iran, Egypt, and Tunisia will be in action for the same purpose in the A bracket; Poland, Netherlands, Qatar, and Romania (B); France, Argentina, Finland, and South Korea (C); and Slovenia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Chile (E).
The list of participants is completed by Italy, the 2022 world champion, Ukraine, Algeria, and Bulgaria (F); Japan, Canada, Turkey, and Libya (G), and Brazil, Serbia, the Czech Republic, and China (H).
This event will be the first to be held under the new format of being held every two years -previously every three years- and with 32 teams -previously 24-.
The Cubans are in 12th place in the FIVB world ranking, a list headed by Poland, followed by France and the United States, in that order, while in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games the gold, silver, and bronze medalists were the French (gold), the Poles (silver), and the Americans (bronze).
From fourth to 12th place, Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Serbia, Canada, Argentina, and Egypt, respectively, finished in the multisport event. (Taken from ACN).
