Basque pelota
Havana, Jan 14 (JIT) - Cuba's high command of Basque pelota has designed a critical route for this sport in the current year that includes both international and domestic tournaments.
The route will begin with a training base that will serve as preparation for the World Frontball Championship, scheduled for Mexico City from March 2 to 9.
This training will be completed in the Aztec capital from February 11 to 28, as informed to JIT the national commissioner and president of the Cuban Federation of Basque Pelota and Racquetball, Lázaro Mendoza Simón.
Together with the Cuban frontball team, the jai alai team will move to Mexican territory to take part in the League of Nations which will be held at the same time as the world championship event.
Both competitions will be qualifiers for the absolute world championship of the sport scheduled for 2026 and the Pan American Games of Lima 2027, in Peru.
Cuban teams in these modalities maintain aspirations to qualify for these events with a full team.
The agenda on foreign courts is completed with the participation in the under-22 world championship, scheduled for September in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There, they will attend to be among the first eight places.
The 30-meter Fronton Nations League, which also grants direct tickets to the world tournament and the continental multisport event, will take the Antillean pelotaris to Mexico in October, also to achieve the classification of the whole group.
At home, the national games are scheduled for the pioneer, school, and youth categories. According to the initial calendar, these events will be held in April, May, and June, respectively, always to be held in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque.
