Havana, Jan 16 (RHC) - The ninth edition of the Havana Triathlon will be held on a new circuit, starting and finishing at the Hemingway Marina, located east of the Cuban capital.
Contrary to the previous version, which started at the Marina and closed in the gardens of the Hotel Nacional in the capital's Vedado district, the event scheduled for February 16 will take a new route.
The information was confirmed to JIT by Alejandro Puerto, president of the Cuban federation of the sport, who assured that more competitiveness and spectacle is expected.
“Some time ago we were considering the possibility of changing for several reasons. The Marina Hemingway has been an excellent venue for other championships of the sport and as a training area for our masters and the national pre-selection,” he explained.
“The Marina Hemingway meets the requirements of international entities to hold the IX edition of the Havana Triathlon,” the executive stated.
The competition comprises the Havana Triathlon America's Cup, a qualifying event for athletes from the Central American and Caribbean region to the II Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025.
According to Puerto, the qualifier is a plus in this edition and twenty-four places will be disputed, 12 for men and 12 for women.
The executive clarified that up to six athletes per gender may participate in this segment in representation of each national federation, although it will only give tickets for a maximum of one in each gender per country and does not grant points for the world ranking.
“The Havana Triathlon America's Cup does guarantee points for the rankings of the Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026, in the Dominican Republic, and the World Cup,” Puerto explained.
Both tournaments will be held in the sprint modality of 750 meters swimming, 20 km cycling, and five km running.
