Havana, January 21 (ACN)-- Cuban sailor Adriano Castro qualified for the second edition of the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción 2025, finishing in fourth place in the Kite Formula of the Mayan Wind Fest tournament, based in the Marina Puerto Cancún, Mexico.
According to the Cuban sailing group on Facebook, Castro Ortiz accumulated 24 points in the 11 races held in that class, behind a Mexican (10), a Brazilian (14) and another local (22), which is why he achieved the third ticket of the four available, since only one athlete from each country makes the grade.
The other four Cubans present at the qualifier were left without places for the multi-sport event in Asunción, scheduled to take place from August 9 to 23, with the closest to achieving that goal being Miguel Ángel Abad Díaz, who finished eighth in the eight iQFoil races with 68 points, surpassed by sailors from Argentina, Antigua and Barbuda (2), Mexico (3), Guatemala and the United States, and they shared four places.
Lisbetsy Rojo Salazar was in 11th place in the ILCA 6 with 91 points in eight races, Rafael Soria Durán finished in 14th place with 95 points in eight races of the ILCA 7, and Elizabeth Buchillon Gorenzo in tenth and last place with 104 points in 10 races of the iQFoil with the designation that none of them competed.
In none of those three cases were they able to reach any of the tickets distributed, three, four and the same amount, respectively.
Cancun brought together nearly 400 sailors from 16 countries, all with their sights set on Asunción.
