Frank Abel Álvarez
Havana, Feb 4 (JIT) - Pinar del Río right-hander Frank Abel Álvarez signed today a contract with the Guerreros de Oaxaca club of the Mexican Baseball League at the Adolfo Luque Hall of the Latin American Stadium in Havana.
Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation (FCBS), also signed the document for the host country, while Francisco Minjarez, sports manager of the Guerreros, signed for the Mexican side.
"Los Guerreros is a winning team, that's why I am very happy to have signed this contract. We have not yet talked about what functions I will perform, but I let them know that I have always been a reliever," explained Frank Abel in an exclusive interview with JIT.
"A new opportunity, change of air, a new continent and I'm going there to give my all with them," confirmed the lanky player, who last season worked with the Chunichi Dragons farm team in the Japanese professional league.
"We followed Frank last season when he was with Chunichi. He's a strong-armed pitcher with a lot of repertoire. We are sure that his four or five pitches will bring us many victories," said manager Minjarez.
Along with Frank Abel, the Warriors also hired experienced Cuban manager Ricardo Eizmendi.
