Havana, Feb 5 (ACN) Winning the last four games took Camagüey's Carlos Daniel Albornoz to the national reign of Blitz games, a prelude to the National Absolute Chess Championship 2025, which will be played in Ciego de Avila.
The airs of the land of the pineapple already began to blow in favor of the leader of the national ranking, who went through the whole day without defeats and owner of 7.5 points in nine games won his third title in this modality (duels to three minutes with two seconds of increment after each move).
Albornoz scored victories over well-known players, such as Cristian Vitier from Havana, and Villa Clara's Diasmany Otero and Ermes Espinosa, the latter in the closing match to ensure his climb to the top ahead of Rider Madruga from Holguín, occupying second place.
Madruga led almost the entire route but lost in the last game against Alfredo Rodriguez from Las Tunas and was left with seven points.
José Avelino Calzadilla, from Santiago, completed the podium of awards, thanks to his 6.5 points and better tiebreaker than Rodríguez, owner of the fourth position.
There were 31 competitors registered in the competition leaving a good impression in terms of organization and facilities to face the classic games competition.
For this section, 24 men were ratified, who will compete during 10 rounds under the Swiss system. It is already known that there will be a different champion than last year.
