Havana, Feb 19 (ACN) - The Cuban U-20 women's national team will leave today for the Dominican Republic, where it will compete in Group C of the CONCACAF Qualifiers 2025.
The team, coached by Silvio Pedro Miñoso, will face Panama, Bonaire, and the hosts, in search of a ticket to the Championship of the category corresponding to the region in 2025.
The debut of the Cubans will be on February 21 against Panama, and then they will face the host team and Bonaire, on February 23 and 25, respectively, in all cases with the stage at the Felix Sanchez Stadium.
The winners of each group will advance to the qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to be held in Poland in 2026, where Mexico and the United States have already qualified.
The road to qualification looks challenging for Cuba, as it will have to face two teams ranked in the top 10 of the CONCACAF rankings: the Dominican Republic (8) and Panama (10).
However, the vice-president of the Cuban Football Association and director of the women's project, Ciro Escalona, said the team will seek to compete to the maximum and improve its position in the regional ranking, where it currently ranks 17th out of 41.
The team's call-up includes goalkeepers Yasmery Díaz, Loraine de la Caridad Leiva and Marianna Mendoza, while in defense will be Milay María Méndez, Amanda Gisela Espinosa, Samantha Odalis Andino, Luana Vilech, Isabel Portela, Delennis Acosta, and Rocío Amelia Pérez.
In the midfield are Ninel Ortega, Delenys Isabel Corona, Dalia Ledesma, Edelis Daniela Tamayo, Yailén Díaz, and Yannara Cos, while the forwards are Ena Leyva and Zailén Savón.
