Cuba unveils team for the Panamerican Youth Weightlifting Championship

Havana, Mar 4 (RHC) - The Cuban Weightlifting Federation announced the local team that will take part in the Pan American weightlifting tournament to be held in Havana from March 9 to 16.

Cuba will take part in the event with a team made up of eight girls and an equal number of boys.

The men's team is made up of Yuliesky Martínez (60 kg), owner of a biathlon of 234 kg; Yasiel León (65 kg) and 222 kg as total weight; Yodanis Linares (71 kg) and 257 as maximum weight lifted, and Yoisbel Calderón (71 kg), from Pinar del Río, whose total weight is 240 kg.

Completing the list are Santiago's Emanuel de la Rosa (79 kg), who has the best biathlon of the group with 295 kilograms, Yosvany Reyes from Mayabeque (79 kg), with a total of 270, and Matanzas' Eniel Gil (88 kg) and Jonathan Villalonga (98 kg), whose overall lifts are 275 and 244 kilograms, respectively.

The women's team is led by Thalia Castillo (48 kg/145 kg) and Rihanna Alfonso (+86 kg/170 kg) from Villa Clara, and also includes Yelisbeth Seijo (53 kg/160 kg) and Lorena Montoya (77 kg/185 kg) from Guantanamo (77 kg/185 kg).

The list is closed by Santiago de Cuba's Lisney Adame Napoles (63 kg/180 kg), Erdilianys Chamizo (69 kg/165 kg) and will share the limelight in the 86 kg category with Geidy de la Cruz (170 kg) and Melany Liranza (175 kg).

The 41st edition of the Manuel Suárez in Memoriam Tournament will be held simultaneously with the Havana Pan American Games, the only weightlifting qualifying event for the Asuncion 2025 Pan American Junior Games.

Among the main figures of this sport in Cuba summoned to the competition are Ludia Montero in the 48 kg division, Yeniuska Mirabal who will be in the 77 kg division, and the world youth champion Marifelix Sarría Ruiz in the +86 kg division.

For the men, we will enjoy the work on the platform of Arley Calderón, in the 65 kg category, Ariolvis Begué in the 98 kg, and Edisnel Corrales in the 79 kg, among others.
