Havana, Apr 1 (JIT) - The Cuban youth handball team debuted with a victory in the Norceca 2025 Women's Pan American Qualifying Tournament, which is being held in Mexico.

The triumph came against Canada, with an epic victory, as they managed to overcome an adverse score in the last minutes of the game to win 28-27.

At halftime they were down 13-15, but the northerners extended their lead to four goals, but Jorge Coll's students were very good on defense and began to pull away with quick transitions.

Ismaray Chirino was the most outstanding player for the Island, with seven goals, followed by Zaharis Hernández, with five.

The Canadian team is considered one of the strongest in the area, so the result is very positive, considering that the top three advance directly to the Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025.

This puts Cuba in a favorable situation for the moment with a view to getting one of the tickets, and only mathematically would not get a place in the playoffs if we take into account that the Dominican Republic lost with a difference of more than 20 goals against the United States.

The Americans will be the Cubans' rivals on the second matchday, and a victory practically assures qualification for whoever gets it.
