Havana, Apr 7 (JIT) - The Cuban women's national team will take part in the Women's Handball Tournament of the Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean (Norca) of Mexico 2025, which begins on Monday.

But it will not be until Tuesday that the Cuban women will play against Puerto Rico, as part of a single group of five nations that will face each other in a round-robin format.

On Wednesday 9, they will play against Canada and Thursday will be a day off for all participants.

On Friday, actions will resume and the Cubans will play against Mexico, before closing the qualifying phase on Saturday as opponents of the United States.

The first four teams in the order with the best win-loss record advance to the semifinals of first vs. fourth and second vs. third.

The winners will compete for the gold medal of the tournament, which has as an incentive for whoever wins it the region's ticket to the 2025 World Women's Handball Championship in Germany and the Netherlands.

The Cuban team has a roster that combines experience and youth, with some athletes who play in foreign handball clubs, who bring quality to the team.

Two of these players with experience in European handball will support the offensive weight of the team coached by Jorge Luis Coll: Gleynnis Reyes and Lorena Tellez, who have scored more than 80 goals each with the Cuban national team.

The contribution of Odalys Escalona and young players with international experience such as Jennifer Amanda Toledo, Naomis de la Caridad Mistelier, and Shakira Robert is also fundamental.

Experienced goalkeeper Niurkis Mora will have to provide security in the last defensive bastion along with her colleague Danielis Herranz.

The experienced Ángela Amorós is integrated with teammates with some experience such as Dianny González and Nahomi Rodríguez and others with less experience such as Lilianni Rosabal and Melissa Chala.

The roster is completed with the talented young Zajaris Hernandez, who performed very well in the team that recently qualified for the Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025, and the debutant Islenia Parra.
