Sept 5 - Today Cuba lost 0-9 to Japan and is now left without the possibility of competing for the medals of the World Sub-18 Baseball Championship based in the Japanese city of Osaka.

The locals, the only undefeated in the competition, opened up the score on the first inning after two outs when Cuban pitcher Lázaro Najarro made a wild pitch and allowed a double from Ta-iga Hira-sawa.

VOLLEYBAL

Today Cuba's volleyball women's team defeated the Peruvian team in four sets, in the Volleyball's World Cup, being held in several cities in Japan, where China appears on top of the chart.

This is the third success of the Cuban team in all their 10 appearances, placing them in 9th place of the tournament that gathers 12 teams competing for two seats at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016.

According to the competition's official website Cuba lost the first partial 13 to 25 but quickly reacted winning 25-16, 25-18 and 25-19 with a remarkable performance by Heidy Rodríguez scoring most of the points.

In a series of negotiations undertaken by the Cuban Volleyball Federation (FCV) to raise the level of their performances and contribute to the wellbeing both personal and professional of their athletes, five volleyball players will join European teams which include Greece, Turkey and Chec Republic in the upcoming month of October.

Ariel Saínz, president of the Cuban Fedaration of Volleyball, stated the contracts are signed here in Havana with all of the legal guarantees and stressed the obligation of teams that may be interested in Cuban volleyball players, to identify themselves before a the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, which will not deal with intermediaries, "under any circumstances ".
