Washington, December 23 (RHC)-- John Brennan, former director of the CIA, has launched a scathing attack on U.S. President Donald Trump, saying the Republican shows "qualities usually found in narcissistic, vengeful autocrats." Brennan, who led the CIA under former President Barack Obama, made the remarks in a message he posted on Twitter.
The former Central Intelligence Agency chief also blasted the president's harsh stance against critics of his declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. "Trump Admin threat to retaliate against nations that exercise sovereign right in UN to oppose US position on Jerusalem is beyond outrageous," tweeted Brennan. "Shows @realDonaldTrump expects blind loyalty and subservience from everyone -- qualities usually found in narcissistic, vengeful autocrats."
Trump had warned that the U.S. could discontinue financial aid to countries that vote in favor of a draft United Nations resolution against his decision to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's capital. U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley also warned that Washington would remember those who voted for the measures.
The threat, however, failed to push back an overwhelming majority of the world body's members as 128 countries, including United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan, voted to adopt a resolution that calls on Trump to rescind the decision. At the General Assembly session, nine countries voted in support of the Trump administration's policy. Thirty-five other nations abstained from voting.
Brennan has previously called Trump's character and leadership style into question after the president accused U.S. spy agencies of using Nazi tactics over leaking "fake news" and "phony stuff" about him to the media.
