Santiago de Chile, February 20 (RHC) -- During the opening of the "Elias Figueroa" soccer stadium in Valparaiso, Chilean President Sebastian Piñera announced on Wednesday the building of 13 stadiums under his administration.

"Our target was to create a revolution in the sports infrastructure and now we have 13 new professional stadiums. It is the first time in the history of Chile that so many stadiums have been built. He said that seven stadiums are ready and six are under construction.

Pinera said that during his government, which began in March 2010 and will end on March 11, 2014, 160 smaller stadiums and 30 sport centers were built "to practice basketball, volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics and dancing, among others, because we want everybody to practice sports."

He reiterated that Chile will host the 2014 South American Games from March 7th through the 18th in Santiago de Chile, which is the most important sporting event in the South American country after the 1962 FIFA World Cup.
