Caracas, Feb 28 (RHC-PL) President Nicolas Maduro said today that events known as Caracazo (the people's uprising against neoliberal measures imposed 25 years ago) were the start of the Revolution of the 21th Century.
Twenty five years ago, the people broke the yoke and said enough with neoliberalism, wrote Maduro on his Twitter account, referring to the historic events that shook Venezuela in the wake of tough economic adjustment measures imposed by then President Carlos Andres Perez.
More than 3,000 humble people died, betrayed for centuries by an oligarchy that plundered the homeland, he added later in a separate message.
Through the social networks, Maduro considered that the Bolivarian Revolution, which took power in 1999 led by late President Hugo Chavez, was born of that event of February 24 and today it projects towards 21th Century Socialism.
In another message he expressed confidence in progress made for national dialogue, or the National Peace Conference held yesterday with representatives of the political, economical and social sectors in their quest for final solutions to achieve the country's pacification.
"We will follow the path of dialogue and action to defend peace and the Constitution," he wrote.
Most people in Venezuela repudiate small violent groups attacking society; the right wing must stop this now, he said regarding violent actions by small groups trying to destabilize the nation.
