Washington, August 6 (RHC)-- U.S. President Donald Trump’s state of mind is “certainly questionable” to be able to say he is the “least racist person there is anywhere in the world,” American analyst and political activist Myles Hoenig says.
Trump on Sunday declared that “hate has no place in our country” following two mass shootings over the weekend that left thirty people dead. Trump said that his administration has “done much more than most administrations” in addressing the issue of gun violence, but conceded that “perhaps more has to be done.”
“It’s really beyond pathetic that President Trump can come on the air and claim his administration has done more than any other in preventing gun violence and that he is also denying any links to the growing white supremacist movement and his encouragement of it,” Hoenig said.
“First, there has been virtually no legislation coming out of Congress since he has been president that has dealt with so many mass killings in recent years. And as a strong supporter of the National Rifle Association, the very idea of him going against them is improbable. The NRA is having its own internal problems, including losing membership, but the political establishment stands behind them 100%,” he said.
“Trump said that ‘hate has no place in our country,’ and that’s easy for him to say as he has always denied that he is a major cause of such hostilities. His incredibly inflated ego has him believing that he does no wrong and is the answer to all our problems. He even claimed that he is the ‘least racist person there is anywhere in the world.’ His state of mind is certainly questionable to be able to say something so outlandishly ridiculous,” he stated.
“The other aspect to this situation is how it’s being played out on the campaign trail, especially coming from the Democrats. This is an easy issue for them. The vast majority of Americans want something done, even if it is as simple as a background check. Many prefer bans on such assault rifles. It’s easy to say that Trump is a racist and a white nationalist since their base is not the typical American racist or white nationalist,” he said.
“But the Democratic Party is not free from guilt either, as they have been as strong a proponent of the racist judicial system as the Republicans, from their support of the for-profit prison industrial complex, to opposing bail reform, each based in racism and class division. Hillary Clinton, for example, raised a lot of money from this industry and today Kamala Harris has to defend her role as a state prosecutor that based much of its sentencing and prosecution on racial grounds,” he noted.
“All in all, these two massacres are only different in that it was back to back, rather than weeks apart. This just might push the most reluctant of Congress members to act, as all of their seats in the House are up in 2020,” he concluded.
