Washington, November 11 (RHC)-- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Washington "fully supports" the Organization of American States in organizing new elections and a new electoral tribunal.  

The top U.S. diplomat said he backed the preliminary report by the OAS on alleged “irregularities” in the last elections in Bolivia.  And Pompeo insisted that all officials involved in the last elections in Bolivia "must step down from the electoral process."

Following the OAS report, Evo Morales called for new elections and the renewal of the members of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to guarantee peace in the country.  However, the main opponents -- former president Carlos Mesa, Evo's main rival in the last elections, and right-wing leader Luis Fernando Camacho -- demanded the resignation of Evo Morales.  That was quickly backed by the armed forces and police, who called on Evo to step down.

In response to the coup, U.S. intellectual and activist Noam Chomsky revealed that the United States I was behind what happened in Bolivia.  Chomsky warned that the operations center of the United States Embassy in La Paz had suggested two plans in the South American country: “Plan A, a military coup, and Plan B, the murder of Evo Morales."

Noam Chomsky said that Evo defended an anti-imperialist stance and said that as long as he served as president of Bolivia, he would not become a ‘Yankee colony.’  Evo Morales continually denonced U.S. interference in Bolivia's internal affairs and attempts to prevent his electoral victory.
