San Salvador, April 21 (RHC) – Salvadorians are ready to resume the country’s busy political agenda after the Holy Week holidays. One of the issues pending, is the transfer of power to the newly elected president, Salvador Sánchez Cerén, from the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) party, who will take office on June 1st.
The power transfer to the new authorities by President Mauricio Funes’s administration started last March and has been carried out in harmony. According to FMLN Secretary-General Medardo González, the policies of the Sanchez Cerén’s administration will never be aimed at affecting the population with cutbacks as happens in other parts of the world.
“On the contrary, we are in a situation to guarantee the continuity of social programs that are extremely important both for the outgoing administration and for the new one as well,” he said.
Gonzalez stressed that Sanchez Ceren’s call on all political, economic and social sectors for a national dialog will be a vital mechanism. He said: “We know multilateral understanding is key to the nation's development and peace, and to this end we need to engage all sectors of society, including the business sector and the political opposition.”
