Brasilia, April 4 (RHC)-- In Brazil, Amazon land defender and indigenous leader Zezico Guajajara has been assassinated.  His body was found near his village with gunshot wounds, marking the fifth assassination of Amazon forest protectors in the past six months.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old indigenous woman living in a village deep in the Brazilian Amazon has tested positive for COVID-19 -- the first case in the region -- raising fears that the pandemic could spread to remote indigenous villages with lethal effects.

Colombia also reported the first two coronavirus cases among the Yukpa indigenous community in the city of Cúcuta.
