Port of Spain, May 3, (RHC), -- The Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the group of States from Africa, Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP) are to meet this month in Brussels to agree on areas for joint action and strategies to fight climate change.

In a communique, the ACS says that the second session of the Program for a Global Alliance against Climate Change seeks to improve the exchange of information, joint coordination of projects and cooperation.

"ACP countries are suffering the adverse effects of this problem. Therefore, it is imperative to take immediate steps to protect means of survival," said Assistant General Secretary of ACP, Achille Bassilekin.

On Apr. 30, ACS held in Mexico its sixth summit of heads of State and Government on issues including cooperation and the process of natural risk prevention in the Caribbean, sustainable tourism and infrastructure.

The objectives of the Association, created in July, 1994, include promoting a common space for consultation, cooperation and action in trade, transport and disasters in the Greater Caribbean.

It groups Antigua and Brabuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominique, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela.

The group of States from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific groups 79 countries with the objectives of defining common positions and coordinating activities of member countries.
