Caracas, May 15 (RHC) – Venezuela’s riot police forces clashed with protesters following their attack against the Tourism Ministry building in Caracas.
On Wednesday, demonstrators gathered in the eastern part of the capital and attacked the ministry, which prompted police intervention to put an end to the demonstration.
According to Manuel Quevedo, the commander of the National Guard regiment, 80 people were detained during the clashes.
This is the latest of a string of attacks against government institutions and supporters by right-wing opposition protesters, which have left up to 10 million dollars in damage and hundreds of people injured since violent riots began some three months ago.
Venezuela has been the scene of violent anti-government actions since early February, staged by hardline opposition groups, seeking to launch a coup d’état against the government with the backing of the United States.
