La Paz, December 24 (RHC)-- Bolivian President Luis Arce announced Thursday at a press conference the discovery of a gas field, called Boycobo Sur-x1, and celebrated this important finding: "It is a gift from our Pachamama for all Bolivians."

In more detail, the president explained: "After 12 years, YPFB [Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos] found this reserve of one trillion cubic feet [TCF].  This is a well located in the Caipipendi energy exploitation field in the southern department of Chuquisaca.  That property is operated by the Spanish company Repsol and has the participation of the Anglo-Dutch company Shell and the Argentinean company Pan American Energy (PAE).

It is expected that the gas extraction work will begin next year, after several months of searching: the drilling of this well had begun in October 2019, and required an investment of 74 million dollars.

Thus, Bolivia continues to be a territory characterized by its great sources of energy.  Currently, it has 10.7 TCF of gas reserves, guaranteeing local supply and its export commitments to neighboring countries, such as Argentina and Brazil.
