La Paz, January 30 (RHC)-- The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, kicked off this Saturday the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in La Paz, with the application of doses to the medical staff of the Hospital del Norte, in El Alto.

The department of La Paz will receive 1,625 doses of the 20,000 doses of the Russian drug Sputnik V that arrived in the country on Thursday.  The batch of 20,000 Sputnik V vaccines is already distributed for each department and will range from 500 to 2,000 doses (beneficiaries), while a percentage of the total will be set aside for any unforeseen event that may occur in the distribution process.

The COVID-19 vaccination schedule will conclude on Tuesday in Chuquisaca and Oruro.  The information was provided by the presidential spokesman Jorge Richter, who confirmed that this Saturday the immunization will begin in the departments of La Paz and Pando with the presence of President Luis Arce, as it happened this Friday in the city of Santa Cruz.

The 20,000 doses have already been assigned to the different departments: To La Paz 1,625; Oruro 650; Potosi 750; Cochabamba 1,500; Chuquisaca 800; Tarija 750; Pando 500; Beni 500 and to Santa Cruz 2,000, making a total of 9,809 taking into account that each dose represents two vaccines.

Richter reiterated that the first batch will be destined only to health personnel.  "The priority are the doctors, nurses and nurses who are in a situation of direct contagion," he said.
