Damascus, June 2 (RHC-Agencies)-- Syria entered Monday into a phase of “electoral silence” on the eve of the presidential elections to be held on Tuesday, June 3rd.
The country's Supreme Electoral Committee recalled on Sunday that at this stage, political advertising is strictly prohibited under the provisions of Article 58 of the Law on General Elections.
In these elections, the current President Bashar al-Assad seek re-election, representing the ruling Baath Arab Socialist Party and according to analysts, he is the favorite to win Tuesday's presidential election.
The second candidate is Hassan Abdulla al Nuri, who was released independently. Previously, he was Minister of State for the Development of Public Administration and Parliamentary Affairs, between 2000 and 2002 as well as being deputy from 1998 to 2003.
The third and final candidate is Maher Abdel Hafez Hajar, who founded in 2003 along with other Communist leaders leftist Syrian National Committee and was one of its leaders until formation renamed the People’s Will Party.
In the days before the election day for Syrians residing abroad was developed. In this regard, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mekdad said the voter turnout abroad reached 95 percent.
