Another indigenous leader killed in Colombia​




Bogota, April 5 (RHC)-- The Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) denounced this Sunday the murder of an indigenous leader in the municipality of Caloto, located in the Colombian department of Cauca.

According to Indepaz, the victim was Fernando Lozada Franco, who was part of the Nasa de Tacueyó Resguardo in the municipality of Toribío and the National Union of Security Professionals (Sinproseg) in Caloto.

According to preliminary reports, Lozada Franco was found with several bullet impacts and for the moment the authorities are investigating the motives of the murder, "the fact of this man occurred in the morning hours on the road El Palo-Caloto," adds Indepaz.

In addition to the murder of Lozada Franco, the authorities confirmed this Sunday morning the perpetration of a massacre in the municipality of Circasia, department of Quindio, where four citizens were killed. 

Indepaz reports that so far in 2021 a total of 42 social leaders and 13 ex-combatants have been killed, while 25 massacres have been perpetrated.
