Brasilia, May 21 (RHC)-- The rapporteur of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry of the Brazilian Senate (CPI), Renan Calheiros, said that the former health minister of Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo Pazuello lied in his testimony about the government's performance in the fight against the pandemic.

Calheiros pointed out that at least '14 opportunities' were proven in which the former official 'flagrantly lied' or denied statements that he himself gave publicly when he served as minister

Pazuello appeared for the second day before the ICC, which is inquiring about the actions and negligence of President Jair Bolsonaro's administration during the pandemic.  Among Pazuello's alleged falsehoods is that he personally informed Bolsonaro about vaccine offers from U.S. laboratory Pfizer.

The thesis that Bolsonaro would receive advice from people unrelated to the ministry began with the testimonies of former ministers of the sector as Luiz Henrique Mandetta and Nelson Teich, as well as the president of the National Health Surveillance Agency, Antonio Barra.

The ICC rapporteur stated that in view of Pazuello's facts, the congressmen were facing a 'new strain of disinformation', which he defined as 'the negationism of negationism'.  The CPI was created to investigate the management of the Executive Branch in the pandemic and to supervise the application of federal resources by the states and municipalities.
