Caracas, May 24 (RHC)-- The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced this Sunday the unilateral pretensions of the Colombian Executive to reopen the border.

"They are talking about opening the border.  Nothing unilateral is going to work if the reactionary government of Colombia does not coordinate with the government of Venezuela.  Nothing on the border is going to work," denounced President Maduro.

The Venezuelan president emphasized that the Colombian government's decision has the mission of bringing the new variants of the COVID-19 to Venezuela: "They intend to send those variants to contaminate the country so I denounce it, I asked for a plan to protect the Venezuelan border."

In view of the social crisis suffered by Colombians due to the repression against demonstrators who have been mobilized for 26 days, President Maduro accused his counterpart Iván Duque of using Venezuela to hide the human rights violations in Colombia.
