Heavy rains and flooding affect over 100,000 in Guatemala
Guatemala City, June 2 (RHC)-- The spokesman of the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction of Guatemala (Conred), David de León, from the official Twitter account of the institution, reported that during 2021, the rains caused in Guatemala 107,057 affected.
At the same time, de León detailed that rainfall caused in 2021 a total of 90 incidents, of which 42 were floods, six landslides, five landslides, three collapses and nine "structural collapses." In turn, the Conred spokesman pointed out that the rains forced the evacuation of 4,237 people. However, de Leon noted that only 53 were housed in state shelters.
In addition, the Guatemalan official pointed out that in the course of 2021, 1,067 houses, 18 roads and a bridge were also damaged by the rains. The Conred representative added that the rains caused the death of one person, corresponding to that of a minor on May 6, in the department of Chimaltenango.
