Lima, June 27 (RHC)-- The president of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) of Peru, Piero Corvetto, denounced that he was attacked verbally and physically at the Regatas Club in Lima, in the middle of the tense situation in the country after the legal resources that prevent the official proclamation of Pedro Castillo as the new president-elect.

"I regret to inform you that a few minutes ago. I was physically and verbally assaulted inside the Club Regatas Lima," Corvetto said on his social networks.  He also denounced that "Club Security has not provided me with the aggressor's information.  I'm attaching photos of the attacker."

According to the Club, these facts are contemplated in its statute and disciplinary regulations for which it has already opened a process.  These "situations of discrepancy" should be resolved with "a respectful and tolerant crossing of positions in private spheres," they explained in a statement.

In view of the complaint, the Peruvian Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the facts, as the Fourth Office of the Corporate Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Chorrillos carried out actions at the club's premises in that district to identify the aggressor.

The head of the office, Luz Vargas, requested Regatas Lima to provide the images captured by the security cameras on the premises and the entry book.  In addition, she asked the Institute of Legal Medicine to see the physical injury caused by the attack.
