Lima, June 29 (RHC)-- The proclamation of the candidate for the Peru Libre party, Pedro Castillo, as president of Peru "cannot be delayed any longer," said former president Ollanta Humala in Lima.

In a message posted on his Twitter social network account, the former Peruvian president -- who weverd from 2011 until 2016 -- affirmed that "it is not democratic" to "sow doubts" about the electoral process that has received recognition by international organizations.

"Official results point to Pedro Castillo as President.  Sowing doubts about a process, internationally recognized as transparent, is not democratic.  It does a lot of damage to the country and its institutions," Humala wrote in his tweet.  "The proclamation of Pedro Castillo cannot be delayed any longer," the former Peruvian president asserted.

Castillo received 50.125 percent of the valid votes cast in the runoff election, held on June 6, a difference of 44,058 votes over his Popular Force opponent, Keiko Fujimori, who obtained 49.875 percent, according to 100 percent of the tallies counted.

However, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) must still resolve a series of nullity requests presented by Fuerza Popular, before proceeding to the proclamation of a president-elect.

For his part, Pedro Castillo, who has called on his supporters to be vigilant in the defense of the vote, stated in a tweet that his commitment is to "maintain fiscal balance and improve the quality of public spending, promote investments and respect the independence and autonomy of the BCRP (Central Reserve Bank of Peru )."

"Hence our willingness to ratify Dr. Julio Velarde as president of this important institution," stressed the virtual president-elect in the message sent to maintain the stability of financial markets.
