Santiago de Chile, June 19 (PL-RHC) -- Shrugging off opposition criticism, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet reached her first 100 days Wednesday as head of Government, with a result said to be positive and a high rate of popularity.
Bachelet's administration has an ambitious plan, in which it has to accomplish 56 measures in its first 100 days and according to presidential sources, 92 percent has been accomplished.
The president presided over a meeting Wednesday, in which she announced a program of investments in the health sector (2014-2018) of $4 billion USD, basically devoted to improve or build hospitals.
Socialist leader Osvalso Andrade, member of the official coalition Nueva Mayoria (New Majority), said this is a Government that fulfills its promises, and even presented bills that were not on the agenda of the first 100 days. And the top leader of the Christian Democratic Party Ignacio Walker said he expected to do things more calmly from now on.
The initiatives that are still pending are creation of the Culture Ministry and three others regarding aboriginal peoples, including creation of a Ministry of Indigenous Affairs.
