Managua, October 19 (RHC)-- The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) released a statement on Tuesday in which it categorically rejects recent statements by U.S. officials against the government of Nicaragua.

According to the statement, the position of U.S. officials is a flagrant violation of the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and accounts for the continuous attacks and destabilizing attempts against the Government of Daniel Ortega.

Likewise, it condemns the interference of the Organization of American States in matters that, according to ALBA-TCP, concern exclusively the Nicaraguan people and institutions.

In this sense, the Alliance welcomes the preparation of the electoral process in Nicaragua and ratifies its support to the Sandinista Government in what it called its decision to continue defending sovereignty, peace and the remarkable social, economic, security and national unity progress achieved.

Finally, the member countries of the Alliance call on the international community to reject this type of intimidation and to defend the sovereignty, self-determination and political independence of the States.

ALBA's declaration comes after the previous week, the Secretary General of the organization, Sacha Llorenti, led a working visit to the Central American country in which he expressed himself in similar terms on the interference of the United States in the region.
