Santiago de Chile, November 8 (RHC)-- A Chilean Carabinero lance corporal was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly raping a female colleague during a party at a home in Maipú, local media reported.
The aggressor, identified as Nicolás Letelier and member of the 25th Precinct of Maipú, was sharing his home with friends, including the victim. At around 2:30 a.m., and after the other people left the premises, Letelier grabbed her by the neck to attack her, according to preliminary police reports.
The report adds that the victim, who was able to flee from her aggressor, called her partner to formalize the complaint at the Maipú police station, after which lieutenant colonel Gonzalo Urbina Castro of the Santiago Rinconada prefecture remarked that Carabineros will not tolerate this type of situation.
The senior officer emphasized that Letelier "was immediately dismissed from the institution and an administrative inquiry was initiated"; he added that he will also be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Lance Corporal Nicolás Letelier, after his arrest under investigation order of the Western Flagrancy Unit of the Chilean Investigative Police, was transferred to the 51st Police Station of Pedro Aguirre Cerda, where he will wait to be formalized on the charge of rape.
