Managua, November 16 (RHC)-- The National Assembly of Nicaragua approved this Tuesday a declaration rejecting the interference of the Organization of American States (OAS), an organization that violates international law and questions the democratic development of the Central American country.

The rejection of the Assembly was given after the pronouncement of the OAS on November 12th, where it interferes in the affairs of the country -- "openly violating the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other States."

The Nicaraguan legislative body said: "We request the other powers of the State of the Republic of Nicaragua to pronounce themselves before this reprehensible act of interference, so that together we continue defending the sovereignty and dignity of our country."

Based on Article 138 of the Political Constitution of Nicaragua and Article 92 of Law 606, the Assembly members condemned the recurrent position of the OAS, as expressed in the resolution approved in Guatemala City.

The Assembly recalled that this is not the first time that the OAS has interfered in the country's affairs.  "The last interfering action was to state that the general elections held in our country lack democratic legitimacy, obeying the interests of traitors and representatives of the White House of the United States."

"Nicaragua has historically promoted and respected International Law and its institutions; and our international relations are based on friendship, complementarity and solidarity among peoples and reciprocity among States", stated Nicaragua's Legislative Body.

During the extraordinary session of the unicameral parliament, it was urged that the Government, presided by President Daniel Ortega, make public this condemnation of the OAS document through the Official Gazette.
