Venezuelans vote in regional and municipal elections
Havana, November 21 (RHC)-- More than 14,000 polling stations opened this Sunday in Venezuela for the regional and municipal elections, in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
The 29th electoral process in the last 22 years began at 6:00 a.m., in which Venezuelans will vote for 3,82 popularly elected positions, including the country's 23 governors and 335 mayors, as well as members of state and municipal legislative councils.
"Sunday November 21 has arrived. (...) Let's go to vote Venezuelans, united for the love of the homeland, in peace and harmony," wrote President Nicolás Maduro on the social network Twitter.
The so-called mega-elections are the second electoral event held in Venezuela in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to the legislative elections of December 2020, for which rigorous biosecurity protocols were implemented.
The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Pedro Calzadilla, highlighted the day before the democratic spirit of the Venezuelan people and their willingness to settle their differences through elections, as the only possibility to achieve peace and prosperity.
More than 21 million 159 thousand voters are called to the polls this Sunday in the regional and municipal elections.
