President-elect of Honduras denounces attempted hijacking of Congress

Tegucigalpa, January 23 (RHC)-- The President-elect of Honduras, Xiomara Castro (Libertad y Refundación, Libre), denounced this Sunday outside the National Congress that a dictatorship is trying to hijack the Legislative Branch so that it does not respond to the popular mandate and stressed that her party is defending the rights of the Honduran people.

Before hundreds of people who continue to mobilize in the vicinity of the Parliament in defense of democracy and that the popular vote will be respected, she recalled that the elections of November 2021 were to remove from power the dictatorship of the current president, Juan Orlando Hernández, and banish its practices.

Xiomara Castro said that the people clearly voiced their choice during the November 28th elections and their will to end this dictatorship, putting an end to the corrupt practices of traditional politics must be respected.

She assured that if the Honduran people allow what she considers the kidnapping of the Legislative, in that Power of the State there would be a dictatorship, since it would be controlled by a group that does not respond to the people.

Earlier, Xiomara Castro recognized Congressman Luis Redondo (Salvador Party of Honduras, PSH) as the only president of the National Congress.  In a message disseminated through the social network Twitter, Xiomara Castro expressed: "I recognize the Presidency of Congress headed by Deputy Luis Redondo."
